My Search For God From my childhood I did not have peace in my heart. Since I did not find peace at home, I left my family and went to Calcutta in search of a job. I was living with much difficulty and going without food for days. My uncle and other relations at Calcutta never cared for me nor did they offer me a single meal. One day I tried to end my life by jumping into the river Ganges from the Hawarah Bridge. A Bengali Christian family rescued me as they were passing by in a boat. They rushed me to a hospital. It was there that I first came into contact with Christians who saved me from death. I went to Kalahanda, Orissa and once again was near death. I was so ill from lack of food and rest that some people took me to a Christian hospital. A Christian doctor took the utmost care of me and I fully recovered. This was the second time Christians saved me from death. Once I was reading the Bhagavad Gita. When the doctor saw this she gave me a book called Bible Pardeep (The Light from the Bible). She explained to me the way of salvation and asked me to pray to Jesus for the healing of body and mind. I slowly recovered and went back to work. Later on I joined some Hindu monks and lived in a monastery on top of a hill and worshipped Ram and Hanuman. They taught me to smoke ganja and other things. My heart was seeking after the only true and holy God. I was restless within. Finally I left the monastery for a job making coke by burning raw coal. I inhaled a lot of poisonous gas and became very ill. I was taken to a hospital for an operation. When I was lying like a dead man I saw a vision. I saw a great light in which a holy God was standing. He came and held my hand with His right hand. At that time I was praying to the God whom my heart had been seeking for years. I know this, unknown but living, God touched me and healed me. In May 1982 1 attended a meeting where people were being told about a holy man named Jesus. I gave my life to Jesus and accepted him as my Lord and Savior. He forgave my sins and gave me eternal life. I found God in Jesus Christ after twenty years of searching for Him. --Kumar (Not his real name)One cannot solve a problem simply by denying it. Christ's death for our sins provided the real solution: the forgiveness we need in order to be reconciled to God [made right with God]. And his resurrection gives us a new life that will never end. Can you say, "I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or daemons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord?"
